For top-floor residents, having easy access to the shared terrace can feel like a bonus—an extra open space right outside the door. But it comes with both perks and responsibilities.

On the positive side, the terrace can be a great place for evening walks, small gatherings, exercising, or just getting some fresh air. It can feel like an extension of your home, especially if your flat is compact.

However, more foot traffic near your door can also mean more noise and less privacy. People may gather right above your ceiling, dragging chairs or playing music, and you’ll feel it more than others.

From a safety angle, any storage or clutter on the terrace—old furniture, junk, loose items—can become a risk during storms or heavy winds, and also add load on the roof.

It helps when societies make clear rules: timings, allowed activities, cleanliness responsibility, and what can or cannot be stored. For top-floor residents, being part of these decisions is important.

Shared spaces are a blessing when used thoughtfully; a curse when nobody takes ownership.
